Harvest Moon
Growing and supplying the freshest of produce
Since 1981
Founded in Tasmania in 1981 by Neil Armstrong, Harvest Moon has grown from growing potatoes and trading on the North-West Coast into one of Australia’s leading fresh produce companies, now co-owned by Managing Director and CEO Mark Kable.
With farms and packhouses across Tasmania, New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, a national network of more than 100 contracted growers, and a team of around 400 people, (300 based in Tasmania) the business supplies over 90,000 tonnes of vegetables each year to local, national and international markets.
For more than 35 years, Harvest Moon has exported Australian-grown vegetables to key markets including Southeast Asia, Japan, Taiwan, the Middle East and Europe. Backed by deep horticultural knowledge and ongoing investment in people, technology and infrastructure, the focus remains on growing food well, caring for soil health, and delivering consistent quality year-round produce.
From our farm to your family, Harvest Moon is driven by a commitment to high quality, fresh produce.

Powered by people
At peak season, Harvest Moon employs around 400 people, with around 300 based in Tasmania. Their team of full-time staff, seasonal field and packing crews, and skilled workers across farming, packing, logistics and export, all work together to get quality vegetables from the paddock to plate, here in Australia and overseas.

Australia wide
While their roots are firmly planted in Tasmania, Harvest Moon also operates farms and facilities across New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland. This national footprint allows them to grow, pack and supply fresh vegetables year-round, stay close to their customers, and manage seasonal conditions across different regions. For them, it’s all about consistency, reliability and quality, wherever the crop is grown.
They service local, national and international markets. Harvest Moon supplies fresh vegetables to customers right across Australia, and export to key markets including Japan, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. Having farms and facilities in multiple states means they can supply consistently year-round, whether it’s for local communities, major retailers, or export customers overseas.
North-West Tasmania offers some of the best vegetable-growing conditions you’ll find anywhere. The cool maritime climate, rich soils, reliable water and lower pest and disease pressure mean crops grow more slowly, with less heat stress and better flavour development.
That gives us the ability to leave vegetables in the ground longer, lock in freshness, and deliver consistent quality. It’s a region built for growing food well, and it’s why Harvest Moon has proudly called it home since 1981.
Our cool climate and fertile soils
Being based in North-West Tasmania gives Harvest Moon a real edge. The cool climate and fertile soils help grow vegetables with better flavour, freshness and shelf life, while lower heat stress supports more consistent crops.
Their industry is well set up. Fertilisers, machinery, equipment and irrigation services are all close at hand, with fast response times when it matters most. That access underpins a highly capable, resilient sector and is a key reason their industry continues to lead.

Local support
They’ve built strong, long-term relationships with local growers, suppliers and the community, backed by a skilled agricultural workforce.
Add in Tasmania’s strong reputation for clean, green produce, especially in export markets, and it’s a great place to grow food and a great place to build a business that’s here for the long haul.
There are always challenges
Like any region, there are a few challenges. Being an island can mean higher freight costs and longer logistics chains, especially when moving product interstate or into export markets.
The weather can also keep us on our toes. The cooler conditions are great for quality, but they require careful planning around planting and harvest windows. That said, these are challenges we know well, and they’re outweighed by the growing conditions, product quality and strong reputation Tasmania gives us in both domestic and international markets.
Outside of work, North-West Tasmania offers a lifestyle that’s hard to beat!
You have short commutes, open space and fresh air, with beaches, bushwalks and mountain tracks all close by. It’s a great place to raise a family, be part of a close-knit community and still have time left in the day to enjoy it. That balance makes it easier to attract and keep good people. You can work hard, then switch off and enjoy where you live.
Our region is also exceptionally well serviced. From standout cafés and restaurants to providore food and drink, craft breweries, wineries, gin and whisky distilleries and, of course, world-class seafood, the quality of local produce and hospitality speaks for itself.
As locals, we love living here!
There’s a real opportunity across the region...
Whether it’s grower networks, research partnerships, freight solutions or joint promotion of Tasmanian produce, working together helps lift the whole region.
When local businesses back each other in, everyone’s stronger, growers, exporters and the community alike.
Mark has some sage advice for anyone wanting to start a business in the region.
Do your homework, get to know the land and the community, and take the time to build relationships. This region rewards businesses that are prepared to think long-term, invest in quality, and work alongside the local community rather than around it. Understand the seasons, plan for logistics early, and lean into what North-West Tasmania does best, producing products in a clean, trusted environment. If you respect the region and back it in, it’ll back you right back.
Harvest Moon knows the region is a great place to live and work. They support skills and training pathways, and keep open, practical communication with local industry.
When council and business work together with a shared long-term view, it helps create confidence to invest, grow and employ locally!

Growing crops, businesses, and relationships
“We’re proud of what we’ve built here and of the region we’re part of.
We are more than happy to share our story to highlight the opportunities, strengths and potential of North-West Tasmania. Strong regions are built on real examples, and if our experience can help attract the right kind of investment and support sustainable growth, that’s a win for everyone! Particularly for business, community and the next generation coming through.”
“North-West Tasmania has been a great place for us to grow, not just crops, but a business, a team, long-term relationships, our families for that matter!
The combination of land, climate, people and community support gives the region real strength. With the right collaboration and continued investment, there’s plenty of opportunity ahead, and we’re proud to be part of shaping that future from the ground up.”
